Martin Cox co-founded BSC with a belief in the potential of architecture to create positive change in the world, elevating the everyday experience of the people who inhabit and interact with it. His broad professional experience spans bespoke residential projects to major public buildings for museums and institutions of higher learning. To each project and client he engages with, he brings a focus on clarity of concept, craft of execution, and a sensitivity to context—believing that thoughtful design can foster meaningful connections between people and place.
Martin received his professional degree in architecture from University College Dublin, Ireland, and trained in Germany and Ireland before joining Steven Holl Architects in New York, where he was a Senior Associate for over ten years with responsibility for a number of award-winning buildings. His time there reinforced his interest in architecture as a civic and cultural practice—one that can shift perspectives and enrich communities.
Martin served on the Board of Directors of Artists Space, and continues his advocacy for the arts as an essential component of a vibrant civic life, informing his work as both a designer and educator.
He holds a teaching appointment at Yale School of Architecture, and has previously taught in the graduate programs at Cornell University and Parsons School of Design. Martin is a registered architect in the state of New York and a member of the American Institute of Architects.
