The Collector's Apartment

New York, New York

In a prewar building in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, a corner apartment is reimagined for a collector of contemporary art, books, and ceramics.

‍

The design is organized around the daylight and views of the unit's four windowed corners, defining four distinct spaces with unique relationships to the city. A suite for sleeping and study, complete with a library, is oriented toward the south and west, while a convertible sitting/guest room faces west and north. The main living and dining space is washed in northern light, offering westerly views of the High Line and the Hudson River. Finally, the kitchen projects northward, where a built-in seating alcove frames the city skyline through a deeply recessed window.
